Romanian students brought home five medals from the International Junior Astronomy and Astrophysics Olympiad, two of them gold, two silver and one bronze. The competition took place in Thailand in early November 2026, from 1 to 8 November, and was the fifth edition of the event for young participants.
The gold medals went to two students from Romania, whose results placed them at the top of the competition. Reports on the outcome credit the national team with the full tally, although the individual winners' names have not been published in the coverage available so far.
The olympiad brings together secondary school pupils interested in astronomy and astrophysics, and it has become one of the recurring international science contests for young people. Romania's result adds to the country's showing in these subject olympiads, where students are typically selected through national rounds before representing the country abroad.
Details on the scoring system and the total number of participating countries and students were not included in the reporting. Further information about the individual results would be expected from the organizers or the Romanian authorities that coordinated the team.
